A Cornishman, David Eva has spent most of his working life in Sussex and has painted since very young. As a qualified and practising architect he has always been aware of the immediate environment and the qualities of space.
Having lived on the coast for over 20 years, the marine environment has greatly influenced his work, with the Normandy coast also featuring in his paintings, alongside the landscapes of coastal Sussex and Cornwall. Portrayal of the figure has always formed a parallel strand beside his landscapes and seascapes. Strong colours and quality of light are combined to convey a true feeling of place.
David has exhibited for a number of years at galleries and mixed artists’ exhibitions throughout Sussex. Recent exhibitions include the Brighton Fringe Festival ‘Open Houses’, ‘Where the Sea meets the Shore’, Lewes, Oxmarket Centre of Arts, Chichester and West Stoke, Sussex. One-man shows have been held at Veules-les-Roses, Normandy since 2003. David’s work has also been exhibited at the Royal Society of Marine Artists, the Mall Gallery, London for the past six years.
